Let’s get to know Johnny Voltik a little better….

You combine genres of music such as reggae, electro, hip hop and rock, what inspired you to cross musical barriers?

I enjoy all types of music. I have tons of influences and I am just passing along what all these genres have given to me. I just do what’s natural and then people look at it like, sh!t whats that? I also believe that it brings people together.

You worked with a variety of artists such as  N.E.R.D., Busta Rhymes, The Roots, Damien Marley, and Talib Kweli, what did you learn from working with these artists?

Being fortunate enough to play shows with these accomplished artist definitely let me know that success as a musician is attainable. It also put me at an eye to eye level with there artistry. I picked up a few habits as far as professionalism is concerned. They absolutely love what they do and that was one of the most important things I learned. Even after years and years of them rocking, they still have fun. I remember to always have fun.

It’s sometimes difficult to stay true to yourself in an industry full of pressure, What makes you stand out as a musical artist?

Pressure is an illusion in my world. Pressure is something some other person’s mind created. The only pressure I deal in is through sound vibration I create, lol. I am free in my craft and I give people me. Those who feel it know it. So in a way I guess I write for other people. As far as standing out, I make concentrated music. Think of a plain white suit then an sick purple and teal paisley kerchief that pops in the outfit. Voltik is that pop.

Music is a powerful way to get your thoughts across,What message do you want your audience to take away from your music?

There is more out there, open your mind, make up your own mf’n mind, love each other, live from your heart, do your push ups, eat your veggies, get your high and say your prayers.

For aspiring artist trying to break into the music industry, what are 3 pieces advice would you give to them?

BE YOURSELF (cause that’s what you want and other people want), PRACTICE (cause it allows you to express yourself accurately), OWN YOUR SH!T (cause it belongs to God, u get that?)

What can we expect from your new album?

Uh answers 1,2,3,4,5,7, lol. The Voltik Project Album is sort of an experiment where I was trying to define myself. I told myself that every song has to be real and creative. Gonna drop it this month, let me know what you think.

And most important, What makes you a Styleaholic?

To me, style is taking you and pumping it up, pronouncing it and making the beauty stand out. That is what I do. I live for the style, the mind stretch, the concentrated colors, the imagination, the courage to be outside the box, the cutting edge, the vintage, the nostalgia that is stimulated by the expression, the freak out. I get off on that. I’m a mf’n Styleaholic
